Operations

Operations in our flotilla is one of our most important activities as we support Coast Guard Station St Ignace in the Straits of Mackinac.  These include but are not limited to the cities of Mackinaw City, St Ignace, Cheboygan, Mackinac Island, Hessel, Cedarville and many square miles of open water.  Safety patrols are scheduled as needed or when requested by the Coast Guard.  We also conduct regatta patrols supporting such events as the Port Huron to Mackinac Island and Chicago to Mackinac Island sailboat races.  The summer of 2008 witnessed the 100th Anniversary of the Chicago to Mackinac Island sailboat race.  Both of these events are popular and draw many recreational boaters to our area.  Other patrols include the annual Labor day Mackinac Bridge Walk.  The 4th of July and other holiday fireworks displays find us on the water establishing safety zones for boaters to view the different events in safety.
